About the Music | Contact Information | Another Picture

In my attempts at writing or arranging music for this trio, my goal is always the same: to create music that is the product of something other than my conscious self. I want it to spring from the subconscious,unliteral, ambiguous and therefore shadowy/scary part of life. I want it to be a reflection of what it is like to be dreaming, or drifting mentally. I want it to sound like that. I have always failed at this goal, but the indulgence of the other two members of the trio gives me the opportunity to keep trying, for which they deserve my thanks, if not a medal. ---Larry |
Like most of the music I've written, the music for Licorice Schtick is meant for talented friends to play or sing. All the music I've written and will write for "Schtick" is meant for the friends who listen to us to enjoy immediately. My goal is to communicate through creative performers as directly as I can with creative listeners. Whatever the message might be, I feel that clarity of structure and style, when in the hands of feelingful players, is the best conveyance. My colleagues in "the Schtick" have given me the best shot a composer could have at successful communication. A composer only can hope the message is worth hearing. --Pete |
